“Sure, Darlin’. I’ll get right on that.” She grinned and stepped away.
“Thanks Bridg.”
“That’s alright, Hon’, remember, if you ever have enough of Liz, I’m always here for you.” She grinned walking around the corner.
“Come on Liz, you know Im a one Woman guy.” he called after her, grinning.
“How do you get so lucky?” Tom asked, frowning as Joe stroked the hand of the other girl, Anne. “Every girl in this entire brothel wishes it was them that you chose to be with.”
“Well it could be that my mom runs the place.” Alex commented, turning around on his chair to lean back against the bar and look around at the patrons, being served drinks at various tables by some of the most beautiful cat’s in the west. “It could be that they’ve heard Im that good in bed... which is a high possibility. Though most likely, its that I treat them all like humans and they know that when I want to settle down I’m going to let them do what they want, they wont just be a whore who only sleeps with one guy, they’ll be who they want.” Alex watched as the eldest whore, who still looked quite young, just a bit wrinkled around the eyes, walked down the main stair case, smiling joyously down at her son.
“Alex, what a pleasant surprise, I hardly see you anymore.” the owner, Sam, said as she got closer to her Sheriff son.
“I’m Sorry Ma, I’m in here quite a lot to see Lizzie, but I guess I don’t really think to come see how you’re doing.” He sighed.
Sam stepped up to Alex and straightened his hat for him. “That’s ok, your an important young man now, I should take the time out of my schedule to come visit you.” She smiled, satisfied that her son’s hat was suitable perched upon his head and walked around the bar. “You want a drink? I assume this isn’t a social visit.”
“A water, and sorry, but no. There’s a preacher in town that seems to be trouble.” Alex replied. His mother passed him a glass, frowning a little.
“Doc Simms?” she asked.
“No proof but it looks like it.” Tom replied.
Sam turned and smiled at the short deputy. “I’m sorry Tom I didn’t notice you there. How’re you hon?”
“I’m fine, Sam, just saving my wages for the day you come out of retirement.” He smiled, joking with the older woman.
“Sorry son, Wont be for a long time, not while I have this place, and by that time I’ll be so wrinkled you won’t want me any more.” she ended the sentance with a fake pout.
“Never gonna happen, Sage Hen like you’self aint never gonna age, you’ll just get finer.” The deputy spouted back.
“You’re just a charmer you are.” Sam said encourage-ably.
“And as much as I enjoy listening when it’s my ma being charmed...” Alex sighed, training off mid sentence.
“Sorry, Boss.” Tom said, without a tone of apology in his voice.
“Anyway.” Alrx continued, ignoring the grin on his mothers face. “The preacher’s swearing to take down my ‘filthy lust pit’ or something. Whatever the heck it was he said, had me thinking of someone with a thing for someone's pits.”
“‘s not a tall guy, angry look in his eyes... a knife shaped like a cross, by any chance is it?” Sam asked, a knowing look in her eye.
“Reverend Jacob-” Tom started.
“-Hall. Yeah.” Sam interrupted.
“You know him?” Alex asked, gulping down half the glass of water at the end of the sentence.
“Sure do.” The Boss lady said, taking a towel to a glass. “That’d be the sheriff of Dodge 25 years ago. That be the man who payed for this fine establishment...” she leant forward and stared into her sons eyes. “That man, Jacob Hall... That be your Pa.”
