“No... I think we’re okay for now.” Dante replied, drinking a fifth of his drink and breathing out. “Besides, there’s an entire bar full of people who haven’t seen new people in ages, look around, we’re the talk of the town, everyone’s looking at us...” Dante smiled and made a motion as if to tip his non-existent hat towards a group of girls in their late teens that were staring at him. They smiled and giggled, turning away, to talk to each other. Dante smiled, turning back to Tess. “We could have fun here.”
“You mean you could have fun.” she said, nudging Dante in the ribs. “Go, Have your fun, just don’t go bringing anyone back to our little house.”
Dante laughed. “Nah, I’m good. It’s not like we’re going to be here long enough for it to come to anything.” He smiled and downed a little more of his drink. “Still, no harm in being polite.” he added, with a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
“Fine, but this is still a hick town, don’t get drawn and quartered for adultery, we may not be a couple but they all certainly think we are.” Tess said, motioning towards the people around the bar.
“Fair enough...” Dante said, deflating back into his seat, with a sigh of comfort and a little boredom. “I’ll leave it be.” He snapped off a bar of the kit-kat and ate it.
“I need a re-fill.” Dante said finally as he looked at the bottom of his bottle.
“You’ve had like three beers, get something non-alcoholic.” Tess warned him, pushing her empty cola glass across the table.
“You know it barely effects me,” Dante said, standing up and wobbling slightly. “Yeah ok, two cokes it is.” he smiled, wandering over to the bar.
Dante leant on the bar and smiled as the bar lady came to him again. “Hey Hun, another beer n coke?” she asked.
Dante shook his head, “No, I’ll just have two cokes.” He replied. She nodded and began filling two glasses.
“So how’re you and your girl doing?” the lady said.
“Oh she’s not my girl.” Dante responded casually.
“No? You look awfully close.” she had her eyebrows raised as she handed over the first glass.
“We’re best friends, just traveling together.” Dante sipped the cola, looking up the bar, eyes were still on him. He chuckled to himself.
“Well that’ll sure make the day of most of the girls in this place.” The woman said, grinning cheekily at Dante. “not a one of us has ever heard a real British accent before.”
Dante smiled, holding up his ten dollar bill as she handed over the second iced beverage. “Thanks” he said as he was handed his change. He turned, meaning to head back to his seat, however that wasn’t what happened. He turned, careful not to spill either drink just as a pretty young red head with a glass of her own turned in the opposite direction. Dante’s fore arm slammed into the top of her glass with the force of both their turns and sent it spinning over her hand and to the floor with a crash.
Liquid sprayed over both of them, soaking through Dante’s shirt and through the base of the girls skirt. “Oh crap.” Dante said, turning and putting the glasses back down. “I’m So sorry!” he said pulling off his outer shirt and offering it to her to dry her dress with a little. it was mostly dry, so it made sense at least to him. She took the shirt without saying anything and ran it down the wet part of her skirt. it barely made a difference, but she smiled and handed the shirt back. “Here, let me get you another drink.” He said, taking the shirt.
Dante turned back to the bar tender, “Can I get another of whatever she’s getting?” he asked. the lady looked over Dante’s shoulder and smiled at the cute red head.
“Sure, hun, but you should know. She’s engaged to...” The lady looked around the bar for someone and shook her head. “Well I don’t see him anymore but she’s engaged.”
“Oh, no, it’s fine, I accidentally knocked her drink out of her hand. I’m replacing it.” Dante said, quickly.
“Oh, okay... Hun, are you gay?” The woman asked, ringing up the drink on the cash register. |
