Chapter 1

Anyway, back on to my story. I’ve been studying at NVU for the past two years, and I’ve been stopping drug dealers and saving lives for a year more than that, though if you were to ask anyone about Firefly they’d tell you that she only appeared on the scene a couple weeks ago… or they’d ask who Firefly was.
For the past week I’ve been tracking soldiers of this drug kingpin in the east of New Virterra’s industrial district. At least… I hope they belong to a drug kingpin; I don’t want to be stuck with some undercover police officers to beat up… again.
This particular drug dealer, I know for a fact, sells to kids who sell to other kids who use and either wind up in the morgue, or just ruin their lives before they’ve even begun. So as you can imagine, as a super heroine, he’s not high on my people to tolerate list. The second I track those soldiers back to him I am going to- Oh, cool the class end bell. Finally I can stop filling my bored head with mindless rambling super hero chit chat.
I stand up and pull my rucksack over one shoulder, tightening my shirt for a second before it’s evened out by my arm sliding through the other side of the bag. I take a quick look around to see if anyone noticed my thin shirt tighten against my dark red armour underneath. Nope, nobody is staring… which is quite depressing, I’m a young attractive girl, I should get looks, why the hell- no, no, it’s fine, I don’t want to be revealed. If nobody is catching me with half my super suit on it’s a good thing… They better be sneaking peaks while I’m not looking though.
Anyway, I head out of the lecture theatre, a look of annoyance plastered across my face from this realisation that guys eyes aren’t where they should be and head to the campus exit. That lecture I just endured and ignored, that no doubt had information that would be on the finals, was my last class of the day, and while most of my class mates will now be heading to the library to study or to get drunk at the student bar at the north of the campus I will be heading to the east of New Virterra’s industrial district for some fishing. I want to catch me a… ok I don’t know any fish so can we just pretend that I made a witty joke about fish and drug dealers? Thanks.
So, I’m just leaving my campus, it’s about twelve miles to the industrial district, now is as good a time as any to find a place to change. An alley will do, any alley, I mean all I need to do is put on the helmet in my bag and take off the clothes that I’m wearing over my suit and stuff it in the bag, course I should probably drop the bag off at home, it is pretty distinctive, brown leather with ‘Lucy Young’ embroided in sky blue three inch lettering across the front pocket and a big steel blue star on the flap at the top. No, it’ll be fine, nobody will guess my identity from it… unless they look. I turn down the first alley way I see and pull my bag off my back. I open it and pull out my helmet, which quickly makes its way onto my head, obscuring my facial features from my enemies, allies and anyone with eyes.
Its strange, every time I don this metal mask I think about how easy it would be to just nip into my local bank, rob them and get away, nobody would be any the wiser. I’ve even got four commercially villainous suits in my closet waiting for me to re-don them. Then I remember that I’m a c list hero. There are at least a hundred super heroes better than me so there are at least a hundred super powered beings that could kick my ass and would be against me stealing from New Virterra Federal Reserve, and I go back to searching for heroine dealers and bank robbers to throw at police stations, occasionally literally.
my finger tips press against my thumbs and the boosters on my back burst into life. The control system is pretty intuitive, but its still hard. weaker rockets ignite from my boots to control which direction I turn while the pressure I put on my thumbs determine how hard the boosters burn, I press hard and the boosters send me flying up into the sky. I release for a moment and allow myself to hover. Looking down over the city I find myself looking at grids and trackers on my screen. Three trackers move around the district, two of them moved from heroine distribution hot spot to distribution hot spot while the other moved quickly down town towards the sound of gunfire, or so my screen tells me. I squeeze again and begin following the gunfire. This might just be the break I need to find this guy... or it might be another chance for Firefly to accidentally get caught at the scene of the crime and be blamed for it. I’m hoping for the former. I grin under my mask at my own mental joke. I’m such a geek. but pretty hot so it’s all right.
