“You sure this is the place?” I ask the urine stained soldier boy as I crouched in the dark, around a corner from where he told me that the slave owning King pin was holed up. I got no reply from my companion and began to grow a little angry. I turned to him to see him nodding furiously through the gag I had introduced. I smiled remembering the fun times tying him up.
“All right. I’m going to leave you here. if I come out with the girl you get to go. If I don’t come out...” I smiled. I should scare the crap outa him but he’s done what I want so I’ll be fair. I pull the smallest timed charge I have and clip it to his restraints, totally enjoying the look of fear and desperation in his eyes. “...this will go off in 2 hours, its only strong enough to take out the binds, so don’t hold it up to your face and you’ll be fine.”
He nodded, and I turned to leave. I took a step and then paused, turning back to him. “I ever face off with you again I wont be looking to interrogate.” he nodded again and I headed out.
I kept to the shadows, In my suit I can be pretty bulky and the shadows weren't a great disguise but I feel better not being seen till the last minute. Preferably the last second but like I said my suit is bulky... what’re you gonna do?
I side step around a corner and pause. I’m used to seeing grunts waiting outside these kind of bases. Where were all the- and it occurs to me. When you have firepower like Adria’s why would you keep a bunch of pathetic grunts around?
I sigh, realising I might have to fight the girl. I step out into the sunlight and am instantly pulled backwards by some unknown force. I’m thrown to the ground and I skid into a trash can. Slamming my fist into the ground I get up and glare around for the culprit, finding him. My eyes narrow and then widen, I recognise him without even having to read the profile that appears on my HUD.
“Ri- Orion!” I yelled leaping up and running for him, grinning until he raised his patented crystal sword towards my face which forced me to stop. Of course he hadn’t seen me in this costume and I was as likely to be foe as friend. “Orion, it’s me, Raine... Silva...” I sighed, “Power-Maine.”
He lowered his sword a little, raising an eyebrow. “Lucy?” he asked.
I reached up slowly to my mask, trying to make sure that The great hunter of criminals didn’t run me through thinking I was a threat, and pressed a button on my helmet, sliding various plates out of the way to reveal my face.
Orion, or Rick as I knew him a couple years ago, lowered and sheathed his sword before grinning at me. “Girl you go through costumes more than a super model goes through run-way outfits.” he laughed, pausing a second later and smiling solemnly, “I heard about the cop prostitute incident. Sorry you lost another name, if it makes you feel any better I caught the cop you beat up selling secrets and put him away.”
I smiled and stepped forward, hugging my old friend. “Thanks Orion, it’s really good to see you.”
“no worries Luc- what do you go by now?” he paused, looking around at Dex’s base. “And what’re you doing here?”
My smile vanished as I looked over his shoulder at the base, then back at him, noticing now for the first time that he had changed his costume. he wore a dark red skin tight Kevlar shirt with black trim. His tool belt and sheath were the same as ever, though the handle of the crystal sword seemed to have been extended.
“I’m Firefly now.” I said closing my helmet.
“You and your television.” Orion sighed. “It’s a wonder you’re in as good shape as you are, sat in front of that thing all day.”
I smile for a moment and then continue. “I’m here to save a 7 year old fourteen year old hero from being Dex’s slave.”
“The pulsar kid?” Orion asked. I nodded. “I didn’t realise she was a friend of yours... or a slave for that matter. She never seems to complain about the work she does.”
