I try and remove the Hand from my neck but it’s caught on tight, I actually have to fight like this. I sigh and get back to it instantly, two minutes left I run in, skidding under a kick aimed for my face. I stand up, grabbing the leg and knocking him onto his back. Quickly I crawl up to his face and place my hand on his fore head. “Relinquish control over the girl or I give you brain freeze the likes of which you have never got from any slushy.” She glared at him, causing the lights in the eyes of her helmet to darken and appear a little more menacing. “Even a super size.”
“Or.” Dex said, glaring back, “I could fill you full of holes and take my little guard to my next hide out.” He poked me in the side with the pulse rifle. Stupid thing was unaffected by the glove being torn off.
“Yeah... sure... that would solve all YOUR problems... but that’s just selfish.” I say, frowning and trying to work a way out of... I move my hand quickly, grabbing the gun without thinking and freezing the barrel. He fires, its still pointed at me. I... I...
Last thing I remember is the explosion. I push myself up and look around. The warehouse is in ruins and my armour is dented and charred all over. I look around for signs of life and find Orion pulling at pieces of rock. Trying to find me maybe? Why he doesn’t use his sense of- wait he’s alive?
“O-Orion?” I say, and he looks up and grins, dropping the rubble and leaping over it to come to my aid. He kneels by my side and pats my shoulder... For the record, all of you guys out there when a persons just survived being blown up at ground zero... slapping them is NOT a good idea.
“What...”
“You won... well you’re alive and he’s less so, which I’m calling a win for you.” Orion said, helping me up and putting my arm over his shoulder.
“No offence star gazer, but your opinion is less important right now... where’s Adria?” I ask, not seeing her anywhere.
“She’s fine.” Orion smiled, “After searching the rubble for a solid ten minutes I sent her for help.” He smiled at me as he sat me down on a particularly sturdy piece of rubble. “She saved my life, if it weren’t for her you’re whole blowing yourself up thing would’ve taken me out with you.”
“Didn’t blow myself up...” I sighed, looking up at him through weary eyes. “I froze his pulse rifle and it backfired... he blew us up.”
“I say tomato, you say reverse combustion of a non nuclear energy weapon.” He muttered.
I smiled. Nick had always been able to cheer me up. It’s one of the reasons we dated all those months ago.
Looking back at the rubble I wonder about the health of my opponent, though I don’t wonder for long, the sound of police sirens draw me back to the world and out of my day dreams. My attention is dragged over to the cars hovering about seven inches off of the floor, using a elevation system that yours truly designed.
The vehicles slide to a hold and the doors slide open, allowing the New Virterra emergency response officers to get out.
At least thirty of them, mostly street cops, its surprising how good it feels to see that many people of authority coming to your aid. Though not nearly as good as seeing the young girl you went there to save climbing out and finding her way over to you.
The police spread out and began combing the area. One man, a sergeant by the look of his uniform, headed straight for me, Orion and Adria. He stops before us and pulls out a note pad and pen. “Heroes, thank you for your good work.” he said, smiling.
“It was all her.” Orion said, nodding at me.
“Well, thanks. I just have a few quick questions and then I’ll get you guys a ride to... wherever. Ok?”
“Got it.” I replied. I’d been through this plenty of times before, with different costumes of course. |
